Total Project Time: 531.25
As early as 4th grade I knew I wanted to get into aviation. In Junior High I had developed a love for Kitplanes specifically and bought a subscription to Kitplanes Magazine with what little allowance I accumulated from chores around the house. I developed a love for the Lancair IV which quickly became my dream plane (and still is...), but it was so expensive and unattainable for my means (and still is...). However, in high school I was introduced to the RV-6 through a local builder (Ted Nickels) who was nice enough to let me drop in on his project from time to time his hanger at Sierra Skypark in Fresno, CA. During this time, I learned a lot about the RV aircraft and riveting. This set a firm foundation in my desire to build the plane, however I was a broke kid so I would have to wait... so I continued looking at magazines and dreaming...
During my "college seeking phase" of high school I seriouly considered aviation as a profession and investigated flying schools such as Embry Riddle. However, I decided instead to try my luck at self-employment and moved to Coeur D'Alene, ID. where I opened up a business buying and selling used video games. By 1996, I had sold my business to a company in Spokane, WA and moved back to my hometown of Fresno, CA. where I entered a new emerging field of technology called the commercial internet. While the internet was not new, the graphical web (the world wide web) and the web-browser were just evolving and commercial businesses were discovering the internet as a form to advertise their businesses. I started working for an Internet Service Provider named ValleyNet Communications creating web pages and doing simple programming but within a year I quit and started my own company called Online Design. I later merged my company with another Fresno internet company and we subsequently went through more buy-outs and mergers. The resulting company is now AltaPacific Technology Group, Inc. where I spend my days and am in charge of the Software and Security Division doing application development management and security vulnerability assessments and penetration testing (with emphasis in GLBA and HIPAA Risk Analysis).
In the summer of 2004, my neighbor Ronen and I decided it was time to build a kitplane, the Van's Aircraft RV-7A was an easy choice due to cost, availability of support, performance specs, and many other reasons to long to list here. Besides the plane, other hobbies I enjoy include Microcontrollers and Electronics, Home Automation, Home Theater, Violin, Cycling, Woodworking and Welding and flying Radio Controlled Helicopters. I am sure there are more but I cant think of them right now. I am also actively involved with my church, Northpark Community Church.
As for flying experience, I have started my student pilot license this summer and am learning from Ronen in his really cool Grumman Traveler AA-5 (just like a cheetah if you arent familiar with it).
If you have questions or comments for me feel free to contact me. My information is on the "Email us" page. Common questions I will answer in the F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions) section of this website. Oh and yes, I did develop the software and design for this website and the back-end builders log software that runs it...
